Member Spotlight

Hey Gang,
We are starting a member spotlight! The purpose of this is to highlight our amazing community and to get to know each other a little bit better 🙂 Each week a different member will be featured on our blog answering questions about life, fitness and of course CrossFit Passion! Hope ya’ll enjoy getting to know each of the fantastic people that make CFP what it is today!
                                                               **Creighton Kelly**

1. Where are you from? Born in Spartanburg, SC, but raised in the Peach State.

What do you do for work? I’m responsible for the global datacenter infrastructure for a Fortune 500 company.

Family? A wonderful wife and three kids who challenge me every day with something new and awesome. And of course my crazy extended family!

2. When did you start CFP? I’ve been with CFP since the beginning and with Travis and Marjorie a little before that (shout out to Jamie too). I’ve been a part of every move since they opened (think hours long AMRAPs with stall mats, weights, refrigerators etc. ).

3. Whats your biggest fitness/health accomplishment since starting CFP?

My biggest accomplishment is keeping up with a healthy and fit lifestyle despite the many challenges and priorities that life throws at me. Seven years ago I made a commitment to changing some bad habits regarding nutrition and lifestyle. Those changes have redefined me in a lot of different ways and put me on a CFP has enabled the journey further down that path in a number of ways. The coaches really focus on smart programming, technique, mobility, and an emphasis on finding the right balance based on the demands of your life. Each of those focus areas keep me moving as best I can and back for more each week. All the while, they continue to push me to limits that I didn’t realize were possible.

4. What are your future fitness goals? To maintain my fitness level as best I can, despite the life’s challenges. And a 200 lb. snatch, 400 lb. deadlift, 280 Squat clean and more!

5. What do you do for fun? Go on adventures with my wife and kids, hang out with friends, talk smack at the gym (I can’t back it up), and get outside as much as I can.

6. Favorite lift/workout? Squat snatch/Helen- even though I’m not a runner, I like the dose!

7. Least favorite lift/workout? Overhead Squat- I dislike things I’m not good at/Diane- for the same reason.

8. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start at CrossFit Passion?

Smooth is fast. One can get so caught up in the rush that is Crossfit and the benefits of constantly varied movements performed at high intensity that they forget that with quick results comes responsibilities. Those responsibilities are mobility and technique. Both will become limiters at some point in your Crossfit journey. Trying to undo bad movement patterns and habits that have been established over weeks, months, and years is difficult. Pay attention to each of these elements from the start and you’re likely to be more successful in the long run and see fast gains. People tend not to listen to this advice out of the gate, but eventually, they are forced to deal with both mobility and technique to get better by taking a step back because they didn’t get it right at first and now they are limited; myself included. That step back can be frustrating. It’s less frustrating to take the step back in the beginning when you are learning versus trying to undo the bad habit.
